list of authors and their descriptions (7 posts)

    Hi, I'd like to include a contributors page, listing all of my authors and their descriptions. Is there a call to get the list of authors, so that I can iterate through it (creating a loop within the main loop)?

    I'm using runPHP, so I would do this just on a certain page. Alternately, I could conditionally do this in page.php, I suppose, and put my loop outside the main loop.

    Either way, I'm not finding a call that returns the list of authors that I can iterate.

    Maybe there's a plugin that does this?

    Forget RunPHP for this. Just check out my All Authors Page template:

    View source | Download template

    Hopefully the template is commented enough throughout to follow the logic and make what modifications you need to it.

    The template then need only reside in the directory of your active theme. Follow the instructions here (second paragraph) for assigning a template to a Page.

    (Hmm. Maybe it's time I wrote up something about this template on my blog...)

    This is great; it's exactly what I'm after. I really appreciate it.

    Now, I'm not entirely clear how to integrate this. I know I can edit page.php and have it conditional using the is_page() call. But is there a mechanism to have a certain page use a different template file altogether?

    Thanks for helping a newbie along. I'll gladly RTFM if relevant info exists and you point me to an URL.

    Ahem, to repeat: Follow the instructions here (second paragraph) for assigning a (custom) template to a Page.

    Ah, sorry, I don't know how I skimmed over that in your first response. :)

    Thanks so much for your prompt and relevant help!

    @Kafkaesqui

    I had been throwing things at this problem for a few weeks to no avail, thank you so much for putting the work in on this.

    I will have to hack it up but it suits my purposes brilliantly.
