    Hello Once again,

Ok, let me try and explain this craziness! Initially I had my permalinks set to default. I created several pages begain building the site all’s good. I then decided to change to custom permalinks (I like custom links better) I did so and began building the site some more. Well, turning on the permalink caused an error message 404 in my blog section. I wrote about it in the forum and proceeded to turn custom links off as that’s what caused the 404 error message problem.

But now as I’m sure many of you have guessed. I have to go back in and manually change all links back to the default permalink url/link address. Ok, tons of extra work, I’ll do it!

I started doing it and the new problem is when I insert the new link and then go back to check it…..the first time I click it it goes to the new link with no problem! The second time I click it, it goes back to the custom link. No matter what I do or how many times I insert the new link address it keeps going back to the custom link address.

What gives, anyone with any ideas?

    try this
    delete the wordpress .htaccess entirely
now go ahead and reset your custom permalinks
    save them
be sure they saved – you get a success message
    clear your browser cache
    visit blog
    links should all work now

this assumes you have a linux server

I believe I’m on a linux server, I’m with MacHighway…..my only problem is, I don’t know were to find .htaccess
I find this to be very interesting because it’s even changing links that I put on the actual page, that I paste in. Links that are part of the page text…..

If you could be so kind as to let e know were to find .htaccess

I can give it a shot.

I will look around for it in the mean time

    Thanks,

    David

should be in the root of server (or in the WP directory)

you would use ftp, or hosts file managaer if its available

Ok, I found the word press .htaccess

But the last time my ISP deleted this same file for my old website, it took the whole site down. I do need help with this issue, but I need to make sure that doing this will not take down the word press site that I’m building and if it does not, will it create a new problem.

    Sorry to sound so concerned….

Yes, I found it in the word press folder…..

It should not kill your wp by deleting it, but back it up first

Ok, thanks, I’ll see what happens and report back my findings.
