Links within posts not working on category archive pages - Twenty ten theme (4 posts)

    Hello there! Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me. I've had a look through the forums and not found an answer to this yet.

    I'm building a site for a school using the twenty ten theme. I'm using categories to split news items into separate... categories, and I have links in my main navigation menu to each main category - showing an archive of each post in that category.

    See example: http://stmarys-brixton.devon.sch.uk/current/category/federation-news/

    However, as you can see on this category archive page, the links that are within the post itself are not working. You have to click the post title and go through to the post itself for them to become active. Any ideas how to fix this?

    I really don't want to have to change theme as it's otherwise serving me really well.

    Thanks again

    Twenty Ten uses the excerpt in the category archives;

    controlled by this section in loop.php:

    <?php if ( is_archive() || is_search() ) : // Display excerpts for archives and search. ?>
    			<div class="entry-summary">
    				<?php the_excerpt(); ?>
    			</div><!-- .entry-summary -->
    		<?php else : ?>
    			<div class="entry-content">
    				<?php the_content( __( 'Continue reading <span class="meta-nav">&rarr;</span>', 'twentyten' ) ); ?>
    			</div><!-- .entry-content -->
    		<?php endif; ?>

    remove this bit:

    is_archive() ||

    ideally create a child theme for the customization; http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

    Hi alchymyth

    Thanks so much for your swift response. I'll try this out now.

    Looking at Child Themes, will doing this effect any editing I've done to the css on the original theme? i.e will I lose all my work?

    yes; you will need to extract the edits in some way or the other from the parent theme, then create the child theme.

    check the forum search for 'make child theme after parent theme has been edited' or similar.
