Links cause truncated posts and ‘<<<<‘

Recent WP install. Plain text posts work fine, but any hyperlinks result in the post being truncated to the point of the code. Instead of the appropriate text, something like this happens: “<<<< Blah blah yadda yadda…” If the link is the first text, nothing is clipped, but the <<< still appear. Have a look.
I’ve been unable to track down what might be causing this error. Any help would be much appreciated.
