I recently bought a domain name (theunsettled.org) that I want to use for my wordpress blog (theunsettled.wordpress.com/), how can I do this?
That's to say, I want someone to be able to type http://www.theunsettled.org/ instead of theunsetted.wordpress.com/.
I bought the domain through yahoo, which gives me the opportunity of forwarding to another domain, but not forwording FROM another domain.
Is this possible?

If you forward your new domain to your old domain, that should do it I think. Then if someone types your old domain, it'll take them to theunsettled.org. I have simialr difficulties with two domains on one of their accounts. It's really not working that well. It seem you are better off withone domain per file path or, even better, your own server.
I have tried using the feature in the administrative dashboard that allows you to indicate another address you want your blog to show up at. It breaks my comments each and every time so I can't recommend that route but you could try it and see how it works.
Wrong approach!
You should import the old content to the new location - instead of redirecting the domain.
(and Y. isn't the best choice, btw...)

Huh!?!? I think we have the last part, a little backwards there.. =P I agree with Moshu on this. What I'd do, is..depending on how much money you had to spend.. would be either get a good host, transfer the domain to that new host.. unless of course.. you already have Yahoo as a host..?
Then, get one of the awesome installers from over here, to install the WordPress blog for you.
That way you don't have to worry about Yahoo's crappy, auto WordPress installer.. which gives you an older, quirky 2.0.2 version of WordPress..
Then, I think it's this, to use to import the articles from the username.wordpress.com blog, to the theunsettled.org blog.. I think I have this right.. =P

LOL, leave it to Spencer to pimp install4free (which is a great service, spencer installed one of my blogs).
Maybe I didn't explain what I was trying to say very well but the crux of it actually agreed with the two pros who responded after me. Redirects suck, I'm using one and hate it but am trying to make it work.
The redirect in the admin panel doesn't work for me.
So get a proper host (I can't say I recommend fatcow).

Just for the record: there is no redirect possibility in the admin panel.
The instructions there should be: "Read 5 times the linked Codex article and if you think you understand what you are doing - then you may try to change one of those two URI values. Otherwise, never touch them! Warning: this is NOT a redirect technique!"
Unfortunately, I am not the one who writes the instructions... :(

First of all, thanks for all your help. It's been a busy weekend, but I'm sitting down to work this out.
Still have a question...
Please forgive me my ignorance, if I've got a wordpress blog and a domain, do I need someone to "host" my blog? I do intend to design certain things like the background and such, but that can be done directly on wordpress, right? I shouldn't have to upload things to a server, should I?
You don't read carefully!
A blog hosted at wordpress.COM and a blog hosted at your own domain - have nothing to do with each other.
If you want to have a customized blog on your own domain, that means yes, hosted (=by a hosting package), yes, uploading (=every modified file). Forget your free blog at wp.com (OK, later you can import it) and focus on learning how the blogs hosted on domain work.
And run away from Y! if you want to keep your sanity!

Perhaps this is helpful, it sounds like you'll be able to have a wordpress.com hosted blog working off a personal domain before too long.
