linking website with picture thumbnail

When I link my website on a social platform I want a picture to be linked. As of right now, the wordpress logo is the thumbnail link, with text from a previous blog post. How can I change this so that when my homepage is linked to a social platform i.e. facebook, the homepage images can be chosen to accompany the link?
