Let me start off by saying I'm a wordpress newb, I've been into programming for a while but WordPress is completely new to me.
Now I have a plugin that's got some custom data in it, storing it in it's own tables.
In the backend this is all going very well, I loved programming it (even though it is a solid departure from what I am used to), yet in the frontend I can't figure out how to get my data to show properly and without fuss.
What I want to accomplish is this:
I want to add a single page that lists all the items from my plugin (as stored in it's own, custom database) and allows to click through to single items.
I'm almost ashamed to ask such a question as it seems almost too simple to be true, yet I have not found any way to do such a thing yet.
    Simply put:
I have a collection of 'things', and I want to be able to go to mysite.url/somethinghere?id=someid or whatever.
Storing the data as posts with custom types is not an option as I need to have a completely different workflow in the backend and I need a certain database structure to stay compatible with other non-wordpress code.
I hope I've been clear enough with my problem (if not I will ofcourse gladly eleborate in any way necessary), and if, even though I have searched again and again, there is a page where this is documented then I apologise but please, do let me know.
Now how's that for a first post? -_-

You can pull the shortcode stuff out of this:
    http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/real-time-congress-vote-tracker/trunk/realTimeCongressVoteTracker.php?rev=374089

Then you can put the shortcode on the page you want to display your data.

Yeah, I ended up using some custom post types in combination with shortcodes and get-data. Not the cleanest method but it meats the deadline :) Thanks!
