Link mask generator not working? (9 posts)

    There seems to be a problem with Link Mask Generator. I create the link mask, and test it, and it works fine. The problem is, when I hover over the link in the primary NAV, the link hasn't changed to /go/page. It is still showing the link to the page I am trying to mask.

    I create the link mask, but the plugin does not seem to create the alias directory (mysite.com/go/)
    Do I have to create this manually or is some other setting, Theme/plugin preventing this.
    I tried twice with the allow other plugins to edit robot.txt?
    many thanks

    @gwmichel3rd:

    The link mask generator works within the parameters of content/links in the body area of page, it was not designed to work with Menu's.

    @comparco:

    The alias directory is a virtual directory that serves as an alias (it only exists as a permalink which then redirects the user via PHP).

    You can also change the name of the alias directory as well from /go/ to /anything-you-like/

    However, you do not have to edit the robots.txt, the plugin just creates the virtual directory to appear as an internal link.

    @SEO Design Solutions
    Many thanks for your reply,
    I have created a Link Mask, for my affiliate link;
    http://somewebsite.com/big-ugly-affiliate-link/landing...
    I have the shortlink /go/somewebsite
    I can see the shortlink when I hover over a post with the big ugly link
    inserted in the link creator but I redirect to a 404 page.
    Even the test button in the Link Generator sends me to 404?

    cheers

    I must admit, this is the first time I have seen this. My assumption at this point leads me to believe that it is (1) a permissions setting on the server preventing .htaccess or robots.txt access and / or (2) do you have any other types of redirection plugins installed?

    @comparco:

    Also, in the content link settings tab, did you select a destination link location?

    Hi
    no other redirection plugin used, as I was so impressed with this plugin I wanted to keep it under one roof so to speak.
    There are a few security plugins to protect the site, not sure if they would prevent access.

    Yes, the content destination link location is the ugly link.

    I can be contacted directly as techydave at the above mentioned domain.
    many thanks for your time on this

    @comparco:

    Try disabling the security plugin momentarily and then seeing if redirection works. If it does, then we know security plugin is locking down PHP script used for redirection server side.
