    Hi!

WordPress recently announced that it plans to remove the Link Manager in 3.5. I'm wondering if anyone has developed an alternative Link Custom Post Type for the people still using blogrolls in their sites.

    Regards

The code update was just published on this.

The Link Manager won't be removed, just not enabled on new sites (or deactivated on upgrade for sites that aren't using it).

Existing sites using it shouldn't see an issue.

That said, still makes sense to explore a Links CPT replacement since the built-in Links won't see any improvements, I'd guess.

Also, here's a link to the discussion:

The long-ball game is that the Links Manager will eventually be spun off into a plugin, but appears for now, they're just going to deactivate for unused sites.

  4. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/link-manager/ is the (a?) plugin for that :)

I heavily use the links-feature in WordPress along with the very good plugin Link Library, that extends the link manager to a very mighty tool. I have set up somewhat of a link database for more than a hundred entries. So I need the link manager! I hope the WordPress developers will publish it as a plugin, otherwise I would not know how to keep my links.

The current roadmap is to disable it on new installs in 3.5, not impact in you.

Later, 3.6 or 3.7, the plan is to release it as a plugin and remove the code from core itself.

I'd suggest paying attention when new versions are released and going from there. Thanks!

I have already been following the discussions around this closely. The main thing to do on my part will be to see about checking for the base links plugin presence and giving users a warning if not present.

    base links plugin

What do you mean by that?

Btw. good to hear that you will continue with further development of Link Library. I appreciate that!

The future plugin that will have the current links code found in core.

He's saying his plugin will let you know if you need to download the future one.

I see what you see in Chrome. That's weird. Removing the space before the ? fixes it in Chrome. That could be a temp workaround. I'd say that's some sort of bug in chrome [sig removed]
