This fault has existed for the last few versions of WordPress:-
When I highlight a piece of text and click the Link button, the dialogue box that comes up is blank. The only way to insert a hyperlink is to copy and paste from a text editor, using HTML mode. When this is done the link displays correctly in Visual mode.
This is happening in both Opera (v.10) and Firefox (v.3.5.7).
Have you tried:
- deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
- switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?
- resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I now have a new problem: nearly every installed plugin has been deactivated on the grounds that it does not have a valid header. I am trying to find out what is going on.

Plugins seem to be working again, thank the Lord.
With help from Nik Roberts, I have been able to restore the Link dialogue box by installing the
plugin. This also brings the 'insert embedded media' dialogue box to life, but not the box for the 'insert special character'. The plot thickens.
