Hello,
all link descriptions are truncated after saving the link data. There is no warning or error message. All longer text is lost (RC4).
I found an older ticket here

This seems not to be solved in 3.2

As you can see from that ticket, It's not a new issue(existing in 3.1 at least, and most likely, every release prior to that), and as that ticket is not closed as fixed, it won't be fixed in 3.2.

But isn't it quite unusual, that this is not fixed? I mean we are talking about an issue, where data gets lost without a warning!
By typing in a link description you don't know if it will be truncated. It becomes a try-and-error thing to figure out how long your description can be.
Of course the best solution would be to alter that field, so longer description could be entered for detailed linklists etc.
But the minor solution would be to give that field a "maxlength=256", so you see at least when typing, that no more characters are possible.

The ticket was raised 2 months ago, at a time where 3.2 development was winding up for bug fixing of 3.2 features, for something which has been occurring for at least the last 7 years it's not exactly a regression from past behaviour (7 years is when the database schema for the links tables was last modified, the length was the same prior to that, but i'm not chasing the schema further).
I mean we are talking about an issue, where data gets lost without a warning!
I do agree that losing data without a warning is not the expected outcome, however I would say that it being a single-line input rather than a multi-line text box, and the fact it's described as a "on hover" link description, does infer that it's supposed to be short and to the point.
Please feel free to follow up that ticket in a few weeks to get it on the 3.3 radar with your thoughts..
