Link Cloak for a shorter URL? (6 posts)

    Hello all!

I am using wpms and have a question about redirecting a url. One of my subsites is http://360islandtours.com. I have created a post which is http://360islandtours.com/2895-kalakaua and this url redirects to http://sitesires.com/wp-content/360-island-tour-files/virtual-tours/oahu/kim-maruyama/colony-surf.html

Is there a way to redirect and also keep the original url which is http://360islandtours.com/2895-kalakaua instead of the way too long and too informative http://sitesires.com/wp-content/360-island-tour-files/virtual-tours/oahu/kim-maruyama/colony-surf.html

    It just looks so sloppy.

I'm open to any easy solutions :)

BTW, I am using the Quick Page/Post Redirect plugin which has a feature that is supposed to allow you to only show the "page" url instead of the redirect url, however it is not working :)

You can do this in your .htaccess file, creating a "fake" url with the content of another URL. Take a peak at this great example-page.

However, be aware that leaving the original URL alive will result in Duplicate Content issues, which can potentially derank you in search-engine results.

    Hi! Thanks for the info!

What if there is no duplicate content? My http://360islandtours.com/2895-kalakaua page contains nothing, it simply forwards to http://sitesires.com/wp-content/360-island-tour-files/virtual-tours/oahu/kim-maruyama/colony-surf.html

Will that be a problem still?

No - if it is just a forward (with 301 redirects), there is no problem what so ever :-)

Thanks again for the information. I have to admit though.... I have no idea what he is talking about. Way over my head at the moment :) I'll see if I can come up with an alternative solution for now. Thanks though!
