   I want to achieve single spacing between lines when posting to pages and posts, but I seem to be locked into double spacing, by default. Help!

   The default is indeed double spacing. If you hold the shift key and hit enter, you can get single line spacing. This is a computer default and not just WordPress.

   Please bare in mind that if you do this, you will make it harder for readers to read. White space is important.
