I have seen that WP crashes if I try to upload a large file (3800 x 2500 pixels' jpeg).
Out of Memory in media.php
I see WP is using up to 64MB, and I have seen a post where someone advised to increase the memory limit.
Problem is, on shared hosting it's not always feasible to raise memory limits and much more, there is simply no point in uploading such a large file. I did it just to reproduce a problem a customer had. Beginners often see these pixels/size issues as useless details... unless we force them to care about.
And that's my point: is there any way to limit size of uploaded files?
The resizing function in media.php should never attempt to work on such large images but just prompt the user with a "image too big" message.
Is there something ready such a plugin which I can use? Any recommended fix?
