[resolved] Limiting slideshow to homepage (7 posts)

    Stefan,

I have looked through all 13 pages of the forum and do not see an answer to my question: I have placed a slideshow on my website (www.faithlouie.com) and it works fine but I only want it to play on the homepage. I know that with updated versions of the slideshow I can insert shortcode on a particular page (and will do that, if necessary), but this slideshow is in a widget that was placed in the primary sidebar area. I am unable to see any way to limit widgets to only the home page.

Do I have to take the slideshow out of the widget and insert it directly into the post? Or is there a way to keep it as a widget and limit it to displaying only on the home page?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dan,

I think the best way to do this is with another plugin. I found the 'Widget Logic' plugin, which enables you to choose on what pages the widget should be.

After installing the plugin, putting 'is_home()' in the 'widget logic' field should make the widget show only on the main page of the website. I haven't tried it though, so I hope it'll work.

    Best regards,
    Stefan

It worked -- a little too well. It took the slideshow off of every page.

It worked a little too well? Do you mean it didn't show on the home page anymore either?

Yes, it disappeared from all pages.

If you have a static home page you should probably put 'is_page('slugOfThePageYouWantToShowTheSlideShowOn')' in the 'widget logic' field. The plugin's page explains about that.

It worked -- thanks so much, Stefan! The one quirk is that you have to have a title for the home page, which I didn't have for design reasons. But it doesn't look so bad (and the other pages have titles so it's consistent now, at least).
