   I use wordpress to drive an online publication. Our pub is written by several outside sources, and I wanted to allow them to access the WRITE panel in the admin and nothing else. I also want to limit the categories to which they may contribute, depending on the writer. Has something already been built that control all of this? I have seen a plugin that limits the cateogries, but not something that limits certain admin panels.

   That's built in. Give them the "contributor" role. details.

   I also want to limit the categories to which they may contribute, depending on the writer.

   That will require a plugin. Sounds like you already found it.
