[resolved] Limit users appearing in author dropdown to roles above subscribers? (2 posts)

This problem seems elementary, like something that should've been taken care of long ago. I've searched, but all topics discussing this have been closed, with no solution, that I can see.

In the author dropdown list shown while creating or editing a post, far too many users are included, even those with the lowest level, 'Subscriber.' How can this be changed to show only those with the role of 'Author' or, at least, to filter out those with only a Subscriber level?

A blog with thousands of subscribers could get really bogged down, and it's a pain to go thru a long list, when you only have a few with roles that should be allowed to post.

In my case, not ALL subscribers are showing, but a lot of them are. Which is really confusing. Why are some included and not others? Also, one of my Authors is NOT showing all the sudden.

I tried using another theme, deactivating all plugins, emptying the cache, etc., to no avail.

    Please help!

OK, I just discovered that this problem can be solved by installing the "Custom roles for author" plugin.

This capability ought to be included in the WordPress core, IMHO.

Still unexplained, however, is why the some users with the Author role would be excluded from the Author drop down list.
