[resolved] Limit Contributor's publishing? (10 posts)

Hi is it possible to limit a Contributor to allow them to publish a certain category but only "Submit for Review" for another category?

For example, I have 2 categories, Books and Reviews. I want Contributors to be able to publish Review posts, but not be able to publish Book posts.

Is this possible, either with some modification or plugin or something that's already in WordPress?

    Thanks!

I've tried looking through the "restrict_access_to_cats" thing but none of them seem to be as specific as what I want. I know what I want is a little too specific but I was just wondering if anyone knows how?

Basically if the Contributor picks "Review" as the post's category, they can hit the "Publish" button. But if they pick "Book" as the post's category, only the "Submit for Review" button will appear, not the "Publish" button.

I hope someone knows how to modify something to enable this ;)

I doubt that you will find something like this, because the publishing capability is not that finely grained as to go through different routes depending on the category.

I could be wrong, of course.

Darn, I was afraid of that. Still open to suggestions. Anyone can think of a substitute for this? Or something that could achieve the same effect? :P

You could potentially look at some of the role management plugins, to see if they give you something like what you need.

How about creating a category called 'For Review' (or something) then hiding that category from your main page. Once you have checked the review you can place it in the right category and it will show on your main page.

Oh!! Thanks! Both of you together gave me the answer! :) Thank you so much.

I can just make a For Review category that's hidden everywhere (thingymajig's idea) so they would be able to publish everything. But at the same time, hide all categories except for the For Review category so they can only publish those. This was mrmist's idea because I remember some of those plugins blocks some categories from users.

Thanks a lot guys, you were very helpful :)

    Hi,

After Google-ing for 30 mins ++ and finding the right keyword, I came across this http://codex.wordpress.org/User:MichaelH/Plugins/Restriction

It's a list of plugins available that can limit Categories and Pages to other users. Neat trick huh?

    Best of Luck! ;)
