Would like the user's input. Is it possible to add this as a feature?

If it can't be added what do you suggest as the best way to accomplish my goal?

    Would like the user's input.

Not sure exactly.. can you be a bit more specific? The form does allow user input; for example, name, URL, et al..

I'd like to limit the total number of characters a user can submit, say 800 characters.

Sure, just open simple-ajax-chat-core.php and edit the following line:

    $sac_number_of_characters = 500;

..to change 500 to 800 or whatever works.

Searched for simple-ajax-chat-core.php file, but unable to find it. Where should this file be located?

    Thanks for your help.

Are you using the latest version of the plugin? It should be right there in the root directory..

Downloaded and installed the current version of the plugin on a different site and went hunting for the file. The only PHP file in the root folder for the plugin is: user-submitted-post.php

Searched through the file for anything that deals with characters, but found nothing. Also, looked for any other PHP files (in the plugins folders) and none of them make reference to 'character'.

What a mystery this is turning out to be.

My apologies, I mistakenly assumed that you were referring to Simple Ajax Chat, one of my other plugins. It was a long night. In any case, there are no variables in USP for limiting the number of characters, but that would be something possible to add in with a simple slice of jQuery. Apologies for the mistake.

That's funny. I won't be making assumptions like that in the future.

Is it a feature that you would consider adding to the plugin: users-submitted-post

The user would need to know that that they are approaching the limit--ideally they would see an actual character count used and/or remaining.

Ideally it would be a word count, but I realize the difficulty of that task.

    Thanks again for your help.

Yeah it's so funny. I think a feature like that is a good idea and will see about adding it to a future version. For now, I repeat that jQuery would enable a good solution.
