I have been trying to find a plugin that will let me upload a bunch of avatars that are custom to my site and then let people choose one when commenting. I do not want to let users upload their own image, nor do I want to assign each user an image. I want to create custom avatars and then the user can choose one.
Is there any way to do this?

yes but that is only for avatars in the post. i need an avatar plugin for users who are posting comments.

This plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/localised-comment-avatar/ is for commenters. It allows them to upload their own avatar though and you don't want this functionality. I could modify this plugin for you so that it gives users a choice of avatar based on images that you have uploaded.

Unreal that this plugin doesn't already exist. Hasn't this been a staple on bulletin boards for years? Please do this, tomontoast. WE'll be your best friends! ;)
