Lenght of excerpt when you use the_excerpt() (5 posts)

    instead of the_content().

    I understand the standard excerpt length is 55 characters. Is it possible to change this without using the more-tag?

    Try using the Advanced Excerpt plugin. I use it and it allows you to specify the length and also the tags within the excerpt (so it'll show <p>, etc so it doesn't look ugly).

    or you can change it manually in wp-includes, formatting.php on line 853.

    If you use a plugin like http://guff.szub.net/2005/02/26/the_excerpt-reloaded/ you don't need to change core files.
