[resolved] Latest post is missing and 'manage post' tabs are incorrect (8 posts)

In my blog, 1neidea.com/blog, I drafted a post around a month ago, and then finished and tried posting on Sept4, but had trouble getting the published/scheduled settings to resolve (I wanted it published, but it kept saving back to scheduled, even when I tried to use a timestamp that was easily weeks ago). So I decided to turn in for the night and revisit it the next day. Now when I check my manage post page, the latest post is missing entirely. Not only that, when I check the tabs ("All Posts". "Published", "Scheduled" "Drafts") they don't add up. For instance, the All Posts indicates nothing at all (no digit present) but it shows only my single (legitimate) draft post, the Published Posts indicates 8 (which is correct number), Scheduled indicates 1 (but no post appears in that tab list at all), and Drafts indicates 2 (yet only one post is listed in that tab).

Thankfully, I can almost replicate verbatim the post that seems to be missing, as it happened to be rather short. But the real problem is the incorrect tab indicators. I am using the WordPress theme Atahualpa 2.01 by BFA Webdesign - I even tried loading a different theme in case that was the concern, but the problems still persist. I doubt it really makes sense to try another post or mess with the existing ones until I figure out what the heck happened.

(EDIT: the WordPress version is 2.5.1, not 2.6.1 - sorry)

So I've been playing around with the settings for WordPress and I'm still not able to fix the issue of my missing post or the fact that the manage post tabs are indicating incorrect post numbers/totals.

Is anyone else experiencing anything similar? Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?

Hmmm, I wonder if the database isn't storing them correctly? Try running a repair on your database, and then make sure that when you are done with something that you save the post and log out... don't leave it running.

Thanks BB, I guess I'll have to do a check on that - although I don't have the foggiest how to do what you suggest - I'll keep you posted ;-)

    Cheers

OK - this is stupid.... now all my posts have disappeared..... please can someone help!?

It's hosted on Bluehost, so I wonder if they can restore my database??? I simply don't know how to do it. I don't have it backed up locally.

ALRIGHT! I don't believe it!! I thought everything was pooched.

Thanks, BB! Your suggestion was right on the money. I went into BlueHost.com, logged in, went to the MySQL cPanel admin.... and it says check/repair DB. And that's what I did, that is all it took, now EVERYTHING IS FIXED! W00T!

Now I'm also in the process of generating a full back-up too.

    thanks again for your help!!

As of this post, Bluehost does try to keep courtesy backups for people about every 1-2 weeks or so. You could contact them and see if they could run a restore for you.

As far as running a repair on your database, try logging into your cPanel, click on phpmyadmin, select your database, scroll to the bottom, and select "Check All" then With Selected, run Repair Table. After your done with this, it would probably be a good idea to do an Optimize table, too. You may have already figured this out by now, as, when I visit your blog it seems to be working properly.

Yep, Bernard - the repair DB is what fixed it. I'm afraid to do anything else beyond backing up everything. But if anything else dumb happens, I'll also check out the Tables as you mentioned.

cheers and have a good evening!
