Is there anyway to keep this from happening? I would prefer for users to register on the site they are on and not be redirected to the top-level domain for registration.

  2. No,. not right now you can't.

It works exactly like it does at wordpress.com. Users have to sign up for the whole network.

once they are, you can use this widget
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-users-sidebar-widget/

for users to add themselves to a site, when they are logged in.

What if we are running completely separate top-level domains that shouldn't be related under the same multi-site setup?

If a user registers for one of the top-level domains are they going to be redirected to the other to register?

Nevermind I read the writeup on multi-site (network). That's a bummer that you cannot have segregated sites within the network.

  5. It's just like it is at wordpress.com because it's almost exactly the same codebase.

I am wondering if the latest wp version has solution for this issue. I have a top domain mapped to a sub domain of my main site. I just found out whenever user register on the mapped domain, it went to my main site domain registration page which will be very strange for my users. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  7. No, this is default behavior. The latest WP does not "fix" it, the previous solutions to get around it still apply.
