Kcite not updated properly - showing error messages in header (5 posts)

Some file corruption (?) seems to have occurred while updating WordPress plugins this evening on http://departu.org.uk, q.v. A series of error messages is showing in the header, also I cannot log in to the dashboard - I see similar error messages then also. All seem to relate to the Kcite plugin.

Could I do anything as simple as delete the Kcite plugin in cPanel and reinstall it later? Or would this just make matters worse?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Catherine

Darren at Tsohost (who is an absolute star) has rectified the problem for me within the last few minutes. I quote his message:

    >You had the character 'w' in front of the first PHP line in
    /home/departuo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/kcite/kcite.php

    >Hence the error. I've removed this for you, and the site appears to >be OK now.

The same thing is presumably likely to happen to anyone else using Kcite who is updating to the latest version. I have tried to contact the developers, but their site (http://knowledgeblog.org/kcite-plugin) seems to be down.

Sorry about this one! Rather a poor mistake I am afraid. Reverting to the old version would have solved the problem, although I have now released a update minus the "w".

Rather tricky for a newbie when she had no access to the WordPress dashboard!

Anyway you have sorted the problem now - thank you

Always a tricky decision whether to go "release early, release often" or go "stable is best". The unfortunate reality is that until I release, no one will test kcite for me! So, it's hard to pick up some errors.

This one, I should have got, but it just disappears away in my theme, rather than collapsing in a pile of PhP errors!
