Can I load wordpress on my computer and try it without having to put it up on my host. I want to learn some before I try it for real. I had a web site made for me and they only got it part way done with wordpress, and i did not like not knowing what is going on or how to change things. That is why I want to learn it myself.
    Thanks
    Rob

Not right out of the box, but it's possible:

When you're done, you'll have to transfer everything to a webserver. What you can do too, is install WP with your host, but put the folder behind an htaccess password so nobody can access it but you.

Doing the install on my computer sounds hard for a newbe, may do the way you said. If I just started a free blog with wordpress, do I get the same program to work on? if so that will give me the try I want maybe.
Thanks for your help so fast.

Sorry for the slow reaction. A blog on WP.com is of course WP, but it runs on WP MU (Multi User). You will not have all the functionalities and flexibilities of a self-installed version simply because you can't work on the server. The easiest option is a test install, there is a default option if you want search engines to index it. You can uncheck it while testing things and turn it on when you're ready to go live. As extra you can make an htaccess password to enter the test-install. That's not too hard either and that way nobody can access the test unless you remove the password.

don't be afraid to experiment though.

I have absolutely no experience with anything like this, but I set up wampserver on my home computer and installed wordpress on it within 10 minutes. It was very easy

Just follow one of the many guides about the web and you'll be fine.
