nothing but problems today...
1) when I post images the closing is missing from the code. what's wrong there? I upgraded to fix a similar issue, and did, now I have this one...
2) also, I notice that I don't have the rich editor post window...why? what am I missing here? the option is set...
3) and I still have this problem even after upgrading http://wordpress.org/support/topic/71970?replies=2

To be sure, are you saying that if you manually code the image, it breaks, or that you are only having a problem with the editor/quick tags?
Also, have you de-activated ALL plugins and then tried, then added each plugin one by one to make sure it wasn't a conflict between a plugin and the tinyMCE editor?

I'm using the editor to add images, which I need to do, and the code it creates is incorrect.
No plugins are activated right now.
Thanks for you help so far I'm very stressed over this.

And to be sure, this happens if you turn off the rich text editor and use the quick tags?

What browser are you using? Have you tried an alternate?

using IE. I haven't tried an alt, but I do have another install of WP that I've tried and it works fine.

I just did the full upgrade again (deleting everything) and I still have the same problems...

I just checked another WP on the same server and it works fine NONE of these problems...how can that be?

missed htaccess, got it now. still stuck with no rich editor and images missing the </a>

arrrrrrGGGGHHHH!!!!!
as a last resort I copied the WP install that works on this server to the new site on the same server and I have all the same problems PLUS THIS NEW ONE:
"The uploaded file could not be moved to ."
please help, I'm going mental here. how in the world can one this be happening!?

just checked this is my server set up:
PHP version 4.4.2
MySQL version 4.1.18-standard
looks good right? any ideas?

Options --> Writing --> "Users should use the visual rich editor by default" is checked?
Call me zany. Call me names. But at this point I'd delete all my wp files files for this install (saving wp-config.php of course) and grab a clean archive and re-upload. If using FTP to upload, make absolutely/positively sure that TXT mode is on, not binary.

thanks, but I've done that 6 times now. used 2 different ftp progs with ascii. and I also tried even uploading and extracting a the zip on the server, still the same issues.
I can't understand how one install works properly while another doesn't... why don't I get the rich text editor?
