Add this;
#branding {
z-index: 1;
}
For some reason it was at 9999? There’s no need for such a high number.
Thanks – yes I’ve tried changing the #branding z-index, but it doesn’t work.
I tried 1, and I’ve tried 999 (as someone has suggested) and 5000, without success.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Are you editing the wrong file?
There’s no such style in your Child theme style.css file http://www.mccormickpark.ca/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven-child/style.css
I’m only editing the child theme style.css – this is how it currently looks:
[ Moderator Note: Please post code or markup snippets between backticks or use the code button. Not the single quote character, that doesn’t work. ]
#branding {
background: #ffffff;
border-top: none;
z-index: 1;
}
minus the quotes I just put in the post by mistake!

Sorry, but that’s a different website.
That style.css file will not work on this website http://www.mccormickpark.ca/mccormick-park-archival-photos/
Hi Andrew, so sorry for the confusion!
The live site is on a friends server and I can’t currently edit the associated style.css.
I’m working on the same site (test version) that I originally built on my own server, to fix this problem. Once I’ve figured it out, I’ll have to send the revised style.css to be uploaded.
