Jetpack magic?

Hi I am a webdesigner and am setting up a self hosted word press site for a client with a child theme of the twenty eleven theme. I installed the jetpack plug in, clicked the connect to word press.com. Entered clients email and got a message that there was already a wordpress.com account, with that email. Wrote to client and confirmed that she has never set up a wordpress.com account but got her to do the forgotten password link. She then sent reply to me.

Strange thing is that the username was my name. Maybe I am going mad but to my knowledge I didn’t set up a wordpress.com account with my clients email. I do have a wordpress.com account with my email.

Now I have this message:

Howdy xxxxxxxxxxxx, Jetpack wants to connect http://www.xxxxxxxx.org.au to WordPress.com.

To connect using an account other than xxxxxxxxxxx please sign out first.

Not sure what to do here. Any advice greatly appreciated
