[resolved] JetPack Comments and Avatars (5 posts)

I am a VA that handles many accounts. I have my own email address assigned to my clients' self hosted WP sites so that I receive their comments. I have an avatar of my own. My clients do not. I have installed the JetPack plugin as I need it for things like LinkedIn. I like the feature whereby people can follow comments, however when the replies to comments go back to the commenter, my avatar is showing up in the comment even though I have NOT checked the 'show avatar' box on the discussion page of the site. This is a real problem. What can be done about this?

The notification emails sent to your readers once they subscribe to comments on your site cannot be customized. They do indeed include the commenter's Gravatar, matching the commenter's email address.

To avoid this issue, I would suggest the following:

    • Once your client's site is ready, create a new WordPress account for them, with their own email address. This way, their Gravatar will be displayed if they have one.
    • Use a different email address, or an alias, when working for a client. Gmail, for example, allows for aliases like yourname+client@gmail.com. You will still receive emails from your client's WordPress site, but your Gravatar image won't be displayed.

    I hope this helps.

Hi Jeremy thanks for the quick response. Thanks for the suggestion of setting up a gmail. What I might do is create an account and have it forward to my existing email and that way it should not pick up the gravatar, correct? I do not wish to have to set up separate emails for each of my clients. That would be too many to manage. For the moment, I deleted my gravatar until I sort this out and I see that it substituted something else in place of my picture. Is this image that is showing here something that WP will include in all comments now or just in this forum...

if you already use Gmail, you do not have to create a new email account. Simply add

    +something
to your existing email address. You can read more about it here:
