[resolved] Jetpack 2.0.4 Breaks NextGen Galleries (58 posts)

@slickremix: The bug is actually in your plugin. You're doing shortcodes wrong. Shortcodes, like filters, must return the content to be inserted into the post, not output it.

NextGen Gallery has the same basic bug, but at a much deeper level. It's had this bug for years, and they've never fixed it.

@Otto Yo thanks for this tip, we are fixing this now!

It should be noted that version 2.1.1 of Jetpack did not fix this problem. Nextgen Galleries still do not work since version 2.0.2.

@netbros, The latest beta of our NextGEN Gallery plugin, you can download and install it here. Please let us know if it helps solve the compatibility issue w/ Jetpack.

OK photocrati. I installed 1.9.11-beta and now it says all my galleries and albums are not found. What now?

To give a bit more detail, the gallery folder itself still exists, but the plugin software isn't locating it. Is there some kind of pointer file?

I'm having this exact same issue. I do not have jetpack installed, and the 1.9.11beta version didn't solve the issue. Does anyone have any other ideas of something I can try here? It's kind of critical that I get this working again soon.

@netbros , @coopman , do both of you have all of your plugins + theme updated? Not sure if your active theme offers updates, but at least your plugins all up to date? Same with WordPress?

Also, do either of you have any caching plugins installed (activated/deactivated) ?

I have this issue even with all plugins disabled running the default WordPress theme, and I don't have any caching plugins currently installed. So, it appears to be conflict with the latest WordPress and this plugin for me. I have a bug report in with a temp user and password. I'm hoping to hear from that soon. It isn't possible that I have a PHP setting somewhere that could be causing this is there?

I am running WordPress 3.5 as well as current plugin versions.

I do not use a caching plugin.

@coopman - We've fixed your issue, what needed to be in place was permalinks activated under Gallery >> Options > General Options > select Activate Permalinks & save changes.

Could everyone give this solution a try and let us know if this resolves your issue? @netbros - could you try this and let us know if this resolves your issue as well?

Awesome. It's strange that the permalinks got disabled. Not sure how that happened, but thanks for finding it!

Guys, i had the samr problem, about nextgen not showing the slideshowa.
i deleted jetpack and the problem was still there.
i figured that the problem was with WP Super Cache!!!
even deactivated the problem is there. But when i deleted it everything workwd fine even with jetpack!!!!
So the problem for me was Super cache

why do i even need jetpack? i have a gallery website as opposed to a blog, and both times i have tried jp, my site has slowed down dramatically and ie9 keeps asking me if i only want secure content displayed each and every page i try and open.

i had this thing just fine and then added that damn jetpack and had to do the wordpress.com connection, which i don't really want.

am i missing something? what are the advantages of jetpack?

    thanks...

Since I have the same issue and it looks like there's no solution yet, I will wait for either a jetpack or nextgen gallery bug fix. Please keep us posted!

I already deactivated all plugins. Nextgen then showed it's galleries after activating them all. Scratching my head about this I reassembled the connection with wordpress.com and oops there it was again. Album site visible, galleries blank.

    Good luck!

    Hi Otto,

Thanks for your thoughts on returning the content (both here and on wp-hackers), but is there a chance you might elaborate on the bug you say NextGEN's had for years? I've been examining the code, and can't seem to find a single instance where NextGEN isn't "return"-ing the content to be inserted into a post. You say it's at a much deeper level...would you know of any old topics on the forums where this is discussed in greater detail?

I've been looking into this after receiving a number of NextGEN-related support emails regarding this issue...

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/nextgen-gallery-album-gallery-pages-are-blank?replies=3

I've found a working temporary fix for Jetpack (above), however the more permanent solution added in NextGEN v.1.9.11 Beta hasn't solved this issue.

Any further insight you can provide would be much appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Mark.

Hello, could someone please give an update on things with Nextgen and Jetpack.
I have two different environments. One works fine, one not.

    Here they are:
Works: PHP 2.4, WordPress 3.5.1-de, NextGen Gallery 1.9.12, Jetpack 2.2.5
Doesn't work: PHP 2.3, WordPress 3.4.1 Multisite activated, NextGen Gallery 1.9.10, Jetpack 2.2.5

Unfortunately I can't update to NextGen 1.9.12 which seems to solve the problem because it requires WordPress 3.5 and I don't know whether the WordPress update is not offered because of the PHP-version or due to Multisite.

The former bugfix within jetpack's code is no longer feasible because those lines vanished with a recent update from their side. What shall I do unless just sit and wait for the multisite installation to update WordPress? Thx for any suggestion.

I could not give up and found out the following:

Besides the conflicts between Jetpack and Nextgen there was another Plugin interfering. I deactivated "Facebook like thumbnail" and volá!

So please forget about the last entry. Hopefully I got the roots of the weeds. Thanks for those who work on WordPress!
