Jet pack 406 error when trying to connect to wordpress.com

    I have a self-hosted wordpress blog. I am trying to connect JetPack to wordpress.com and receive the following message:

    Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 406]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: http://jetpack.me/support/

    I have logged in to the wordpress.com site with my username and password and still cannot get it to work.

    Help!
