Javascript question….

I’m trying to add my counter code via external javascript, so it can pass validation. I have added the following to my header:

<script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://www.briangardner.com/javascript/counter.js”></script&gt;

My question is how do I call this so that it actually works? Does that make sense?
