Support » Fixing WordPress » Japanese characters won't display

  • I just switched over from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. I have a bunch of posts in Japanese, and the characters are now coming up as question marks ???

    I did some searching on the forums for a solution. Some people said to delete the DB_CHARSET and DB_COLLATE. This did nothing, and inserted weird question marks with boxes in all my posts.

    Other posts said to check out http://www.japanitup.com/wordpress-japanese-english/.

    But this seems outdated, and I couldn’t get it to work doing this.

    Any idea how I can return my Japanese posts to normal. I’ve been through a lot of stress trying to figure this out.

    I’m new to wordpress.org so I’m not familiar with a lot of the terminology. So if you can describe it to me in simple terms I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

    I tried adding the file ja.mo under languages in wp-content. And then changing in wp-config define (‘WPLANG’, ‘ja’);

    All this does is change the layout language to Japanese, but doesn’t let me type in it.
