I've lost my admin area. (11 posts)

    Hi,

I have a strange problem. I've had my blog for 6 or 7 months and got everything working fine. I haven't tinkered with anything for a month or two, but at some time over the weekend it became impossible to access my admin area.

I can log in fine. Under posts on the home page I can see 'Edit', but hitting that just gives me a blank page with my sidebar, header and footer. I get the same page if I try to load anything to do with the admin area.

I've renamed the plugin folder and made a new. blank one - didn't help.

I renamed the theme folder to force the default theme to load - I just got a blank white page.

I swapped out wp_includes and wp_admin for much earlier copies from a backup, but the site failed to load with function call errors.

I've restored backups of the sql db's (just in case)...still no joy.

I'm at a loss as to what to try next, any pointers would be really appreciated.

Try re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress.

Thanks for the help Esmi :)

I deleted everything inside my public_html folder except wp_content and replaced it all with new files from a fresh wp download. Nothing has changed, I still cant get to my admin area.

I've just realised that the blank page with headers, footers etc only occurs in FireFox.

If I try to access the admin area in IE I get a 404 page not found.

    Hope this info helps

Try renaming the theme folder again. You may have to refresh the page a few times and/or login to the Admin area to force the default theme to activate. Is there a twentyten theme folder on wp-content/themes?

Yes, there is a twentyten theme there.

I've tried refreshing the page a dozen times, tried accessing the site in FF and IE, the site just returns a blank page every time.

The strange thing is, I just replaced ALL the files in public.html with default ones.....and the site STILL just shows as a blank white page.

    EDIT

I renamed twentyten to the name of the theme I'm using, and the site loaded. I found the 'Site Admin' link, and when I hit that, I got the same error as earlier - a 404 page not found.

    I'm really confused ^^

    edit
just followed the advice in this thread

    http://www.techzoomin.com/wordpress-login-issueswp-admin-showing-404-error-page/

and set attributes to 755 of the suggested folders - still the same

    EDIT2

I just found an error log (who'd have thought there'd be one of those huh? lol). I deleted it and tried to access the admin area again.
When it failed I checked the new log, and it has the same error over and over

[19-Oct-2010 09:46:48] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/ffmpeg.so' - libavutil.so.49: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

Needs someone with more knowledge than I to know what it means :(

Found this info regarding that error

If you are on shared, or managed virtual/dedicated hosting, contact your web hosting company - it is their ****up.

I'm still not sure if that error would prevent me accessing my admin area though

I'd certainly contact your hosts about it.

Yes, I did that a few hours back, they are looking into it.

    Thanks for the suggestions :)
