[resolved] iTunes Episode Description (13 posts)

I currently have a new Podcast on iTunes with 6 Episodes so far using Podpress & Feedburner. Everything is working fine & the Podpress plugin is fantastic but my individual descriptions for each Episode is currently pulling in a few lines of text from my blog post.

Is there anyway i can change each individual Episode's description to a custom one?

    My feed URL is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/djmog

Hope you can help & thanks for your time.

Yes. In the box where you add the URL of the episode is also an option to insert a post specific summary. If you insert one, podPress will use this instead of an automatic excerpt of the post.

Sorry, ive just noticed that the Apple Podcasts App still pulls in text from my blog instead of my specific summary - unlike iTunes which is correctly showing my Episode info correctly.

Do you know why this is happening only on the iPhone app?

No. I don't know why the iPhone App does that.
I guess there at least two possibilities:
    - the App does not read or display the <itunes:summary> information and displays the <description> (the blog post content)
    - or maybe it uses a (different) proxy server which caches the content of a feed for a certain time. If this is the case then the behaviour of the app should change when post your next episode.

Maybe you should ask the developers of this app whether it recognizes and supports the <itunes:summary> tag in RSS feeds. iTunes takes the content from the <itunes:summary> tag if it exists and not the information from the <description> tag.

Ok, I've just posted a new episode but it's still the same - iPhone Podcast pulling in my blog content & ignoring the summary.

Have you any suggestions for what else i could try to change in the podpress settings?

I only ask again as with the App in question being made by Apple they don't have any contact details for app support.

    Thanks again for your help...

No. Because you do use the correct settings and input fields! The iTunes pages of your podcast shows it. It uses the text of the <itunes:summary> instead of the content of the <description> tags. That is how it should be.

I have no Apple device. That is why I can not help you with the Podcasts App.
But there is a support forum for this App: https://discussions.apple.com/community/app_store/podcasts_for_ios
You should probably describe the problem there.

Is it possible to subscribe to RSS feeds which are not listed on iTunes with the Podcasts App?
If it is possible, unsubscribe your feed and subscribe to the non-Feedburner version of your podcast: http://djmog.com/mogcast/feed/
    Is there a difference?

It is possible but after trying it im sorry to say nothing has changed...

So it cannot be a Feedburner issue :(

Okay. Thanks for doing this test. Please, try to post in the Apple forum.

Did this ever get resolved? I'm having the same exact issue and it's a problem because I'm using a seperate player and disabling the podpress player, so in the podcast app in the episode description it's showing my link code and I want to override it with the iTunes:summary tag.

what's up with the podcast app ignoring it completely?
