    Hi,

I am very new to this and this is my first attempt at installing WordPress. I have created a database with my host (Rackspace) and have filled in all the relevant details in wp-config-sample.php. Following the instructions I have uploaded the all of the files with the correct file structure, and it should appear as a URL:

    http://www/gorgeousshop.co.uk/gorgeousshop/wordpress

so the installation file is found at:

    http://www.gorgeousshop.co.uk/gorgeousshop/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

However when I enter that URL it is a blank screen and I can not continue with the installation.

Can anyone please advise? I'm sure I've done something very simple wrong, but I am completely baffled.

    Thanks

nope, you havent done this correctly.

    Look at this:

    http://www.gorgeousshop.co.uk/gorgeousshop/wordpress/

No wp-config is the important thing to gleem off that.

You can verify that message by looking at this:

    http://www.gorgeousshop.co.uk/gorgeousshop/wordpress/wp-config.php

    Instead, you have this:

    http://www.gorgeousshop.co.uk/gorgeousshop/wordpress/wp-config-sample.php

Long and short of it, is that the instructions tell you to rename that file to wp-config.php after you have edited it. You havent done that.

Do that, and carry on, and be sure to follow the instructions.

    Hiya,

Same problem (version 2.5.1). First attempt at running http://www.farcry-theatre.org/wp-admin/install.php results in a blank screen. Any ideas?

    Thank you

What did you move? WP connected here before
    http://www.gorgeousshop.co.uk/gorgeousshop/wordpress/

Now it goes 404 and you supply a different url in your last post.
    http://www.farcry-theatre.org/wp-admin/install.php

    Hunter,

Here is what I did to fix it (I had the same problem as you)...

    With respect to this line:

define('SECRET_KEY', 'the unique phrase goes here...'); // Change this to a unique phrase.

If you change 'SECRET_KEY' to something else and try to do the install, you get a blank screen. The fix? Double check your config file to make sure didn't replace 'SECRET_KEY' with something else.

Think of it this way...'SECRET_KEY' is the name of a variable and the WordPress installer looks for it, if you changed it, perhaps that causes WordPress to choke (I think that's what happened to me).

    Regards,

    Kyle
