   When do these functions return true?

   I have a basic default wordpress installation and my archives from my sidebar all trigger true for is_month() for archives like September 2009.

   Do I have control over these archives to return true for is_year() or is_day()? When do these turn true? Does the permalink structure or date in settings->general have anything to do with these archives?
