Is WP the right tool for obituaries? (5 posts)

I'm doing a web site for a funeral home and one of the pages will be an obituary page. The funeral home will need to regularly update this page with new content and imagery. In the past, I set up Contribute programs for such cases, however, I'm wondering if a WordPress.org page will work just as well, or easier.

I will link the WP to the website the same is if it were a page within the site. I will customize the template to match the site design.

Is there any possible security issues with WP that might compromise the integrity of the funeral home?

I would think that WordPress would work very well for the whole site, not just the obituaries section. WordPress lets you have Posts for time-bound content (e.g. news items, diary entries, obituaries) and Pages for non-time-bound content (e.g. content information, descriptions of services, location maps). It's meant to be used as a comprehensive CMS, not just for blog sections within larger sites.

There are possible security issues with most platforms, but WordPress is now a pretty mature, stable, and secure product. There's no reason to avoid it based on security fears.

It would work. You have choices.

You can make the whole site in WP.

Or you can make your site, and have just one section running on WP, and theme it like you said, to match.

Or you could make your site, and run WP on another site entirely, and then pull in the RSS feed from your WP --- and use any method (like for example Spring Widgets) to display the RSS on your first, or any, website.

Anyone know of any funeral homes using blogs for this purpose? Any examples?

Hi, I found this one by searching.
    http://www.sheetsandchilds.net/
    Its currently "WordPress 2.2.1"
so I would certainly consider a more recent version, the obituary section seems to work well.
This was an interesting post as I run several entertainment sites, and I seem to have spent much of the last year writing obituaries, I guess thats my age.I think that wordpress is the perfect tool for you.
If the funeral home you are writing for intends to update themselves, then for once, I would certainly advise them about windows live writer, an obituary and photo could easily be added by them once set up.
    I wish you good luck.
    mike.
