Hi,
I was wondering if wordpress.org is the right solution for my need. i have a client who has a catering website, he needs to create a new landing page with the following requirements:
1- mimic the current site's theme and look
2- Arrange for hosting
3- Copy the database or establish an identical database for our use
could that be done on wordpress.

Well, you can do that with WordPress, maybe might need to do some modifications as well..
Anything can be done with WordPress, but you do need good html/css skills. Knowing php is handy to have, but not an absolute necessity.
The database that you are using, could still be used, but I think that it would be best to give WordPress it's own database tables.
I would recommend that you install WordPress on your host and just play with it and see if it does suit your needs.
