Perhaps you need to review create a network?

I read it a couple of times, as well as this but I couldn’t find a clear answer to my questions. It looks like I need to have all the websites in the same server. And it looks that I can use different databases but I’m not sure…
>Is it possible to create a network for all my sites?
Yes, generally speaking. Depending on your webhost you may run into certain limitations or issues, but that’s the whole idea of WP multi-site: you can run multiple WP websites from a single codebase and database.
>Must all the websites be in the same hosting?
In the end, yes. Let’s say you have A.com, B.com, C.com, and D.com all on different hosts. You would create a new hosting plan, let’s say on E.com, install WP multi-site, and then migrate all 4 of your other websites into the new WP multi-site installation.
>Should all the websites use the same database?
Yes they will use a single database associated with the WP multi-site installation.
There are premium plugins for using multiple databases (http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/multi-db/)
However with just 4 sites, what is the reason for wanting separate databases?
One of the main features of a WordPress Network is the shared user base (lending to the ‘network’ name, IMHO).

Hi,
Can multisite subdirectory be installed on a subdomain (not a multisite subdomain)
Jerry
sorry jaygm, I am new and by mistake became part of your post.
Yes you can install Multisite as a subdir install within an existing subdomain.
Install wp in sub.domain.com, activate multisite as subdirectory 🙂
