I have a family history blog and I want key events to pop up in the sidebar to commemorate birth dates, marriage dates, death dates, etc for family members going back 200+ years.
I only want these to pop up on the date rather than on a countdown basis and I need them to repeat annually rather than have to be re-keyed every year.
Anything out there ?

If you have blog entries for those dates, you could try the On This Day plugin.
It works OK, but the links to the plugin's website and support forum are both broken, so you'll be on your own if you can't set it up! It's all fairly self-explanatory though, and the setup guides are pretty clear.
One thing I found while using it was that if you enable the dropdown to allow people to choose dates via the widget, it'll return a 404 if there's no entry for that date. This will adversely affect your Google ranking, so it's probably best not to use the feature.
I wish the plugin makers would support the plugin, or someone else would adapt and maintain it, as it's a good idea with potential.
