I know this will probably seem like an extremely dumb question, but:

Is there any way for me to see or otherwise become aware of how many visitors visit my blog?

I’ve never been able to find this out, and I can’t find any section of the WordPress “Dashboard” which conveys this kind of information. And yet, it seems commonplace for everyone else out there, including people who are much more newbies than I am, to know what their visitor stats are. How are they doing this?

What am I missing? And if such information is not provided “out of the box” with a standard WordPress install, then what steps would I take to be able to see the stats?

  • look for a stats plugin like http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stats/

You could try looking for a stats plugin but you could also ask your hosts if your hosting account includes access to traffic stats. Many accounts do and the data they provide is normally quite good – without having to add another plugin.

Another option would be to sign up for Google Analytics.

    Plugins!

Google for visitor tracking WordPress plugins, Google Analytics is one plugin you register with google and add a code in the admin section.

I use http://feedjit.com/ they have a free and pro (paid) versions, this gives me a real time view minute by minute, and they have a couple of widgets visible and hidden.
