make a post, write a question, click the more
button and then the answer?
I’m sorry, I don’t really understand what you mean. Which more button?

When you’re writing using the “html editor” there’s a button that says “more”, when you use the “visual editor” there’s this button left of the abc-spellchecker that looks like a beam with a line through. Using this button, you will get the <--more-->
tag in your post and THAT results in a “continue reading” link in the published post.
Well that is perfect, well it would be if I could get it to work. I want to put the question on a page, rather than a post, but even in a post I still cannot get the tag to work. I have read extensive documentation about this on this site and others, but cannot get a solution to get the more tag to work. Any ideas on this?
It should be <!--more-->
You can read this codex documentation on how to customise it more. Is this the page that you were reading?
It does mean the user has to reload the whole page.
So, you could consider looking into AJAXed WordPress, since it help the extra content load onto the page.
The author did say (16th July) that it hasn’t been fully tested with 2.6, but:
AJAXed WordPress has not yet been fully tested with WordPress 2.6, but it seems that the only issue is with the new version of jQuery that is bundled into WP. If you use jQuery, please use the tw-sack JS library until this is resolved.
I have read that documentation and all links to related content, the best I have done is got the read the rest of this… link, alas the link does not work or extend the content.
I mean all I want to do is put a question on a page, not a post and have a link to click on to reveal the answer. I have seen it all over the place used on pages of the WordPress site, I am tearing my hair out trying to get it to work, it should be so simple, but no matter what I have done it doesn’t work! Please help 🙁
The more tag should work on a ‘post’ rather than a page (I read that you hadn’t managed to get it working on a post either?) but you might want to have a look at Ronald Huereca’s article on WLTC about putting a ‘More Tag on a WordPress Page‘.
Also, any luck with Ajaxed WordPress?
p/s: Seeing as you are probably after an FAQ, perhaps FAQ-Tastic Lite might be ideal.
Just tested an (old-ish) plugin called ‘Simple Spoiler Enhanced’ which you can find here that seems to be working fine in 2.6.
You would put the answer (to be revealed) in spoiler tags like this:
answer goes here
Hooray! Thank you soooooooo much for that. I already had read that article, I think I have just about read every single article about more tags that there is to be read.
That is a perfect solution to my problems. It works lovely and such a simple solution. Thank you very much for all your help, I’m so excited I could wee myself.
P.S. I did use the Ajaxed wordpress, that is running well so thanks for that too.
You’re welcome 🙂 Glad to read it’s worked out for you.
