Is there a trick to saving widgets in a theme?

    Hello, I’m creating a child theme and did a quick switch to it and back to the original, and lost a few of my widgets. Took me over an hour to figure out and reset all the information (had to track down a lot of stuff). Is there a known glitch that can cause this behavior? Because I’ve switched from theme to theme before and have never had one lose it’s settings like that. I’m not even sure where to start.
