I’m still trying to get my head around this one so hoping someone can help. I realise the terminology is important here so here goes…

Under Settings > Reading, when I try setting Front page displays to A static page I am given two options:

    1) Front page
    2) Posts page

I know the Posts page uses home.php but is there a specific template which is used by Front page?

  • The arrangement of templates is theme dependent, so it varies.

you can look in your theme folder and see what templates are there. One of them is usually custom-home.php or front-page.php or something like that…

    What theme are you using?

front-page.php is a standard for the front page template. I would refer you to the template hierarchy diagram, which explains these sorts of things well: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Hierarchy

Usually you can just create a page title it “Home” for example. Than go into your themes customize settings and you can set your home page as a static page and it should give you an option to what page you want to make the homepage. But as stated above it varies depending on what theme you use. Not sure if that helps.

I’ve set up a new theme so I’m in the process of creating all of the files and folders. You’re on to something with front-page.php – that looks like it will do the job! Thanks
