Is there a plugin for cleaning up your Tweets?

Pryor to installing the Bit.ly plugin, when I clicked on a tweet this article icon the tweet format was:

@handle
<article title> – <nameofthesite> <articlelink>

and that hyphen got converted to a greater than sign in the tweet; this looked bad in general.

Since I’ve installed the Bit.ly plugin my tweets no longer have the – converted to a greater than sign, but now the tweets have the article title run together with the site name followed by a space and then the article link.

Is there a plugin for editing your tweet layout or some menu I’m overlooking?
