   My site factmeme has more than 600,000 posts (to be more accurate - 664,062 and counting).

   Adding a new post takes forever.

   (The issue seems to be that it's taking a long time to check for existing categories / tags.)

   Is there a limit on number of posts?

   Not from WordPress, but perhaps your server is getting difficulties querying such a number of posts. This might be a question for your host.
