   I'm planning to run WordPress on my Mac PPC G5 Xserve.

   It looks like I will have to pay $2,000 or more to obtain MySQL from http://www.mysql.com.

   Then I read where MySQL is free, open source.

   This looks like a contradiction. Can you clear up my confusion?

   You can also use MAMP instead. That'll setup everything you need on your Mac.

   Yes, it's free to use. They just like to pimp their non-free version too.
