    Hi,

Is it possible to make "pages" not visible to public?

For example, I have two "pages", and I would like to mske one not visible to the public just as "links" can be made not visible.

    Thanks.

Posts and pages can be made private from the WordPress Dashboard. Under Publish you can change from view: public to view: private or password protected for posts and pages.

    Thanks Rhand.

I am new ti this WP.

Here is what I am trying to accomplish.

Iam using the default theme, that has sidebar with monthly archives. That's fine. I want to keep it. So no issue there.

I have created a template to show all acrhive (alpha) and created a link in the horizontal bar I created. It works great. No Issue there.

But now this link also shows in the side bar under "Pages" (I call it "Welcome!).

I just want to keep this in the horizontal bar. So how can I make it invisible under "Pages"? If just do what you suggested, it becomes invisible under "Pages" alright but then I get 404 when I click the "Archive" link in the horizontal bar.

I hope made it clear. Please tell me if what I am trying to do is possible or not. Thanks.

here is my test site: http://www.gurbani.org/testwp/

  4. Template Tags/wp list pages « WordPress Codex shows how to exclude a page or pages from a Page list generated by wp_list_pages, either in navigation or in a sidebar.

To exclude a page in all without changing code, you can try Exclude Pages « WordPress Plugins.

    hi songdogtech,

Thanks for your time and help. I read that material you suggested.

Then I tried the following in sidebar.php:
    <?php wp_list_pages('exclude=archive&title_li=<h2>Pages</h2>' ); ?>

It did not hide the "archive" link from underneath the heading "Pages"

please tell me what I did wrong.

    Thanks again.

  6. Try the ID number of the page rather than the page slug "archive" Reveal IDs for WP Admin « WordPress Plugins to show page IDs.

    hi songdogtech,

    Thanks for your help.

Is there any other way ascertain the ID of a page without installing plugin? I really want to keep my wp installation free of plugins and widgets. Simplicity helps me for i am neither a designer nor programmer.

    Thanks. waiting for your answer.

  8. It's a very small plugin. Or go back to default permalinks and see what the page ID is in the page URL.

    Thanks songdogtech,

I went to default permalinks got the ID that way.

Now the page "archive" under the heading "Pages" is hidden. That's what I want. But again, now the same link in my horizontal bar ("Archive") does not work, and I want it to work. So i am back to square 1 again.

    What I do now?

    Thanks.
