• Hi, i’ve created a few plugins for wordpress, freeware and all, and I like that people use em, and i’m ok with third-party modifications, and i’ll appreciate any website who mentioned em EXCEPT FKN GITGUB!

Maybe i misunderstand something, but today i’ve found this https://github.com/wp-plugins/vihv-speed-up/blob/master/vihv-speed-up.php

    Things i don’t like:
    1) It’s written that Vihv upload this to github, and that’s absolutely wrong. And it looks like we support github, we do not.
    2) Github is a biggerst danger for opensource comminuty, in my personal opinion.
    3) It I update plugin on wp svn it seems like it automatically updated on github, and that’s changed the focus. WordPress catalog should be the first source, others should follow.

4)People should not search github for wp plugins. I think that wp administration might agree with this. Why promote third party and loose customers?

5)Using github make us look bad. There are no screenshots, no support forum, no faq.. people can download but they do not understand what they download, so they expect some magic, and that means they will gone mad (at lest some of em) then they install plugin from github because magic never happens. <- that’s the worst (

so the question is: Is it possible to remove our plugins from github but keep em in wordpress catalog?

How does that make sense? The idea behind github is the spread of code openly and freely, the ability to manipulate code as you see fit and push commits back to the original author or start your own branch. This essentially is what an open source community is.

Also note that WordPress.org/.com/Automattic has no control over github, they are two separate entities. You must have uploaded your plugin to github for it to appear there.

    Go to https://github.com/wp-plugins

See how the site references http://www.pluginmirror.com/ ? Contact them and ask them to remove your plugin.

FWIW, it’s perfectly permissible for anyone to take your plugin and rehost it anywhere else :/ It’s not always nice, but it’s permitted and legal.
